The Harold Holt Charitable Trust
Harold Holt was born in Napier in 1900 and educated at Napier Boys High School. Mr Holt began work for the Lands and Survey Department in Wellington in 1920 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Victoria University in 1924. He worked in the United States timber industry for a time before joining his father's company, Robert Holt and Sons Ltd in 1928. Mr Holt rose to be Deputy Chairman of Carter Holt Holdings Ltd until he retired in 1975.
The Harold Holt Charitable Trust was established by Deed by the late Harold Holt on 14 May 1974.
The district to which the grants can be applied are noted in the Trust Deed and are the City of Napier including the Otatara area close to Taradale which is the location where the Eastern Institute of Technology is found.
In 2019, the trust is focussing on the education of young people, culture, recreation, the environment, social welfare, the disabled, aged and infirm.
Funding Amount and Time Frames
- Applications to be considered as a recipient for funding are assessed annually. The next granting cycle will be from Monday 14th January 2019 to Wednesday 27 February 2019.
- The amount to be distributed this year is approximately $60,000.
- All applications must be completed online.
- The length of the assessment process is dependent on the volume of applications and all applicants are notified of the decision. During the assessment period, trustees may request further clarification from the applicant regarding their application.
